I've learned a thing or two about deep challenge. The kind of challenge that can either pull you under or completely transform your life in necessary ways (a la spiritual emergency).
Challenge can be an absolutely miserable way to learn our lessons. But the thing is, it's loud, which is why it works as a means to get your attention. Feeling disempowered, victimized, panicked, and desperate all before breakfast can't be ignored. Not without a lot of medication.
That kind of emotional emergency lights a fire under you. Well, it can. If you let it.
I suggest you let Challenge cleanse your life, rip away what's not true anymore (sometimes painfully), and bring you back to the only thing that's really important for you right now.
(Which might be a lesson about love. Or surrender. Or trusting that you're held and supported by so many unseen forces).
I believe it's all in how you meet her.
Challenge, that is.
She is asking you to rise. To meet her with your feet on the ground, a full breath in your belly, and a willingness to dance with her. She requires your full participation to work with her medicine. She needs your go-ahead, or else she will thrash through your life in ways that feel impossibly hard.
Essentially, she is initiating you into your power.
She knows exactly where the illusions are in your life and she'll poke at them relentlessly...and lovingly...until you decide to let go where you need to and turn and look directly into the truth. Which is where your power lives.
Because she wants you to rise up and meet her. She's rooting for you, see? Asking you to step into your truth and your power. Even while your life has become a challenge-fueled chaos.
This is when it's most important to use your practices so that you can embrace her and let her do her work.
Everything you've learned from meditation, yoga, therapy, your spiritual practices, now's the time to use it. That deep breathing. That internal stillness. That ability to feel your body so fully and find a solid ground under and inside yourself even in the midst of Challenge.
And let me tell you, you can do this.
You can. And you will. And you are doing it. Right now.
It doesn't hurt because you're doing it wrong or ungracefully. It hurts because that's her medicine. Use that pain.
While I was in the thickest Challenge of my life, struggling with a chronic illness that had me almost house-bound, constantly nauseous, dizzy, and fighting for a full breath (and therefore, as anxious as a human can be), and losing much of what was dear to me, I literally could only do one moment at a time.
If I looked ahead any more than that, I'd spin out unlike anything I've ever experienced before. Because my brain was being literally poisoned by Lyme Disease. But that's a story for another day.
I had a mantra. I chanted it in my head OVER and OVER and OVER again, literally all night long (which is when I would be that sick).
It went like this:
"I can do this. I can do this. I can do this. I can do this. I can do this."
Constantly. Through tears. It was my reminder. Yes, I felt like I was dying. Yes, I was more scared than I've ever been in my life and also more alone.
But. That mantra. That mantra fucking saved me. And I wasn't going to let this thing take me under.
My life was more valuable than that. Your life is more valuable than that. And whatever Challenge is stirring up in your life, I promise you can do it. Yes, you might need support, but you can do it. You can do it. You can do it. You can.
Yes. You can.
And. If you know you need support with it, and if you want to do it with a community of deeply supportive women, which truly makes it so much easier, let me know. We'd love to welcome you with open hearts.
You have dear ones who need to hear this too. There's a button below to make sharing this with them easy.
I love you and you can do this,
PS: There's also this: deep connections, getting real, and big belly laughs...
