Recently it was a dear friend's birthday. A group of us gathered outside on a patio for a summery night with music, apps, and drinks to celebrate her. What did she want for her birthday? She wanted each of us to share about 6 things we love.
After about an hour and a half of socializing, we all gathered in an intimate circle and started taking turns sharing what we love.
"I love the smell inside a Bearded Iris. It's the smell of love."
"I love the feeling of being in the sun all day and then going out at night with my skin glowing."
"I love harvesting food from my garden and serving it at a table of people I love."
"I love the feeling of the baseball bat connecting with the ball right at the sweet spot."
"I love the sound of a summer night."
"I love my kids and who they are."
"I love the creative flow. And I love being an artist."
"I love intimacy. Even when it's hard."
Just writing about it now makes my heart melt all over again. We went around in circles sharing many more than 6 things we each love and elaborating more and more. And cooing and "Mm-hmm"-ing after the ones we loved too.
As the night went on, I felt more and more connected to these people I love dearly. I felt my heart more and more.
Something deeply relaxed inside of me that I didn't even know was holding tension. My thoughts slowed. I was acutely aware of my senses. My breath.
I realized what was happening. My mind was relaxing and that made way for my heart to be front and center. It felt so pleasurable, warm, and connected.
At some point, I shared, "I love the feeling I have right now. My heart's so big and I love you all. I love this moment." I felt it. So did they. Big smiles all around.
The birthday girl shared, "Yes. The heart is so powerful. It's why I endeavor to do everything I do with love."
Of course. Don't we all know this? But love is a practice. Just as we were practicing that night.
Love is actually a state, a feeling that happens in your body. It's what I was experiencing that night that felt so good to me. And since then, I've felt inspired to take on love as a practice.
Will you join me?
Do what you do with love.
Practice feeling your heart. Take the opportunity to bathe in love with those closest to you by sharing deeply and listening intently about what you all love. It feels so good.
Go ahead and start now. Leave me a comment below and share at least one thing you love.
What do I love? I love that I get to connect with each of you all around the world making a positive impact.
Please share this on Facebook and continue to spread the love.
(And finally, to say this precious word one more time...) Love,
